Films
Film is one of the principal ways in which The Elstree Project records and shares the history of Elstree and Borehamwood’s studios.
Drawing upon our oral-history archive, research and relationships with the studio community, we have created feature documentaries, short films and edited interview collections exploring the people, productions and working practices behind this internationally significant film and television heritage.
Feature Documentaries
Our feature-length documentaries explore the history of Elstree and Borehamwood through original interviews, archive material and first-hand accounts from the people who worked there.

Short Documentaries
Our short documentaries focus on individual productions, crafts and areas of studio history, combining oral-history testimony with archive material and location research.
Edited Interview Collections
These collections bring together extracts from across The Elstree Project archive, organised around particular productions, studios and areas of film and television history.

Her Name Was Moviola
Although Her Name Was Moviola is not formally an Elstree Project production, the film grew from many of the same interests, relationships and methods.
Directed by Project founder Howard Berry, the documentary preserves the physical craft of editing motion-picture film through a reconstructed 35mm cutting room and a practical demonstration by Walter Murch, one of The Elstree Project’s interviewees.
The film was made at BBC Elstree Centre and has strong connections to Elstree’s film heritage, analogue filmmaking practice and the Project’s wider commitment to preserving skills and knowledge that might otherwise disappear.
